Corruption in Salem
In older days most of the problems of society sat in the lap of a corrupted government. Like in Arthur Miller's The Crucible, this corrupt government is shown all through out the book. A perfect example would be any Theocracy; a government run by religious faith. The total idea of a biased government does not sit well with unique individuals and may cause havoc in the society the government is running.
Any government run by a certain faith is going to be highly biased and will only make decisions by what their faith says is right, rather than going straight for common logic. There was a lack of government decency in The Crucible and it can be seen in the judicial court in the town of Salem. Things are very unorganized in that court, and are treated as with religious solutions that may not contain any common sense in the slightest. The judges will allow just about anything to slide by them, and will allow anybody just to shout out whatever they feel at any given time. They attempt to act in a serious manner, but in all reality, the way they run their court is absolutely silly. It's a laughing stock. The people of the village can do as they please with the court system in order to get revenge on anybody they have personal problems with. Personal issues leak into the official functions of society everywhere we go. From education to employment, personal aspects of every person's life enters the work place of every single person in this country. The same stands for Salem. With all of the opinions floating around our society, there are guaranteed conflicts to arise at any given moment. This, however, shows no sign of conclusion. There is seemingly no solution to this problem. It is simply human nature. It is the nature of any human being to boast their opinions to those around them, and to fight anyone that thought otherwise. This can be seen today and in the older days of Salem. People used their own personal opinions to blindfold the government from making unbiased opinions, which as we have unfortunately seen, results in horrid consequences. To conclude what has been explained; the corrupt government in place in Salem is the cause of most of the given hysteria... However, this does not excuse the original factor of corruption; opinions. Personal opinions control the government, primarily the judicial system. Despite the fact of how corrupt opinions are, it doesn't excuse it from being a part of human nature; something we cannot control. |
